Vanillekipferln

Quirks again, still making some cookies here at the cabin for Christmas!
These are traditional German cookies called vanillekipferln, meaning Vanilla Crescent.
I have these every time I go to Germany for Christmas so it was just fitting that we made them this year at the cabin.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl combine 2 sticks of softened butter, and 1/2 cup of powdered sugar. Cream together with mixer.
Mix in 1 cup of chopped almonds, two cups of flour, a dash of salt and one teaspoon of almond extract.

Just a side note, we did not have almonds at the time so we used chopped walnuts. Still came out really good.

Shape the dough into cresent shapes and place on an ungreased baking sheet

My mother did this part, I am way too much of a perfectionist, it would have taken me ages.

Place in the oven for 12-15 minutes until slightly browned on the bottom like below.
Yummy right?!

Immedienetly when they come out of the oven, while they are still nice and hot, sift some powdered sugar over the top of them.

Best served with coffee. Enjoy!
